Heroic Parrot Saves Sleeping Owner’s Life By Squawking Like Smoke Alarm During House Fire
A parrot is currently being hailed as a parrot after it started to squawk like a smoke alarm when a house fire erupted.
The parrot ended up waking up his owner, who was sleeping when the house fire erupted.
Eric, the bird, alerted Anton Nguyen to the danger by repeatedly squawking.
The bird reportedly kept on squawking “Anton! Anton!”
The owner woke up, smelt the smoke, and saw the flames.
He grabbed his pet parrot and escaped from the building.
The incident happened in Kangaroo Point, which is located in Brisbane, Australia.
Anton gratefully credited his pet for raising the alarm and saving him from the blaze.
During an interview with Today Show, Anton said:
Eric my parrot, he started to yell, so I woke up and I smelt a bit of smoke. I grabbed Eric, opened the door and looked to the back of the house and saw some flames and so I grabbed my bag and took off and bolted downstairs. I’m in shock but I’m fine. Everything’s alright so long as I have myself and the bird.
The house that he was living in already had smoke detectors, however, Eric managed to raise the alarm before they went off.
Well, I might get a parrot myself now.
Firefighters arrived at the scene just after 3 am but found that Anton already managed to get outside.
The firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 3:30 am local time.
Firefighters reportedly left the scene at around 4:30 am that day.
The property was completely destroyed by the fire and the roof of the house was also destroyed.
Paramedics assessed Anton at the scene but he did not need hospital treatment.
Authorities are now trying to know what caused the fire to erupt in the middle of the night.
