Japanese Aquarium Urges People To Video Call Eels That Are Forgetting That Humans Exist

Every time the garden eels at an aquarium in Tokyo remove their heads from the sand, humans are staring at them, and they do the same.

But due to the coronavirus lockdown measures, the eels have forgotten what humans look like.

The eels at the Sumida Aquarium, which is located in Tokyo Skytree, has been closed since the beginning of March, and eels have forgotten what humans look like. ‘

In a tweet that they released this week, the Sumida Aquarium said and asked:

They don’t see humans, except keepers, and they have started forgetting about humans. Garden eels in particular disappear into the sand and hide every time the keepers pass by. Here is an urgent request. Could you show your face to our garden eels from your home?

They are naming the event as the “face-showing festival”.

Garden eels are sensitive, but there are 300 of them living in just a single tank of the aquarium, so it is important for the staff at the aquarium to show them that humans still exist.

What Will Happen During The Video Call?

The aquarium will be setting up 5 tablets facing their tank, with users asked to connect through iPhones or iPads through the FaceTime application.

As the video will start, people will show their faces, talk with the eels, and wave.

But before that, you need to know that these animals are bashful, so you want to keep your voice low.

When Will It Happen?

The festival is scheduled for May 3 to 5, 2020, which is during the height of the Golden Week holiday.

The plea of the Japanese Aquarium is also viral on social media, particularly on Twitter.
