Mutant Calf Born With 2 Heads And 2 Spines Attached To Single Pelvis Shocks American Farmers

A mutant calf, who was born with 2 heads 2 spines, which were attached to a single pelvis, has shocked a family of farmers.

Scott Kolousek, a farmer that works at Wessington Springs, which is located in South Dakota, USA, was halfway through this year’s calving season when he discovered that one of his cows had a difficult time in delivering her own calf.

Amber, the wife of Scott, said that that they did not know that the calf was extremely unusual until the vet pulled it out during the C-section surgery.

Amber said:

“We have never had another double-headed calf. We calve out about 700 calves each year and have done this for generations. My husband is the fifth generation on the farm. But this is a first for us. We were all pretty shocked to see the double-headed calf when he came out. Everyone there, including the vet, had never seen anything like it in real life.”

Unfortunately, the unusual mutant calf did not survive.

After being born, the farmers could see that the calf had 2 heads that were attached to 2 spines.

Talking about the mutation, Amber explained:

“Early in the pregnancy an egg splits to become identical twins, but sometimes the process doesn’t completely split. So these should have been twin calves, but because things didn’t go right in their development, they were two calves stuck together. It is possible they may have survived a few days, but realistically they would never have been able to survive for very long. With only four legs total, it would have been pretty hard to get up and navigate around. But it would have been cool to have at least seen them try to live.”

Mutant births are extremely weird.
