A veterinary from Russia has given a cat ravaged by frostbite a new lease of life by amputating her dead limbs and giving her 4 new paws that are titanium 3D-printed.

Dymka, the cat, was on the brink of death in 2018 after being stuck outdoors for a long period of time in the winter of Siberia.

The cat sustained severe ice burns, which meant that vets had to amputate all her paws as well as her dead ears and her tail.

Dr. Sergei Gorshkov, a vet based in Novosibirsk, Russia, decided to fix the life of the cat and didn’t think about putting it down through euthanasia.

During an interview, Dr. Gorshkov talked about how the cat sustained all the injuries and managed to get the frostbite.

Dr. Gorshkov told Ngs.ru news website, “There are two likely scenarios: Either she ran away or she fell out of the window.”

He added, “Unfortunately, frostbite in animals is a very real problem in Siberia.”

Dymka, the bionic cat, is the second cat in the world to get bionic prostheses on all 4 paws.

Dr. Gorshkov from Siberia performed the first procedure and called it a success.

The vet later partnered with experts and researchers from the Tomsk Polytechnic University to help him make the prosthetics.

Engineers and designers came up with the plan to make the new legs of Dymka in titanium and 3D print them so they could make sure that it would fit perfectly.

Researchers from the university covered the prosthetic limbs with a special bio-coating to ensure that they would be well with the body of the cat.

According to the doctor, Dymka took 7 months to fully recover from the large operation.

As of now, the cat is back to full fitness and is adapting very well to her new form of walking.

She also found her forever home in the form of the woman that found her.
