The Last Female White Giraffe In The World Has Been Killed By Poachers In Kenya

A white female giraffe, which was believed to be the last white female giraffe in the world, has been killed by hunters in Kenya.

The horrible news was announced by conservationists in Kenya.

The mother and her calf and were found dead in a very skeletal state.

The Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy said they believed the white giraffe and her calf died at least 4 months ago.

The statement by the conservancy also added that the animals were killed by armed poachers.

The extremely rare giraffes were living at the Kenyan Wildlife sanctuary when the incident happened.

The Kenya Wildlife Service were called in to launch an investigation of the disappearance of the animals after they went missing a couple of weeks ago.

Mohammed Ahmednoor, the manager of the Kenyan Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located in Garissa County, Kenya, said, “This is a very sad day for the community of Ijara and Kenya as a whole. We are the only community in the world who are custodians of the white giraffes.”

Mohammed said the killing of the extremely rare giraffes is a big blow to the tremendous steps that the community took to conserve the rare and unique species.

He also called the incident a “wake-up call for continued support to conservation efforts.”

After the killing of the mother and her calf, only one white giraffe is left in the wild.

The extremely rare animals reportedly inherited their bright white coat from a condition that is known as leucism, which inhibits the pigmentation in some skin cells.

Leucism is different from albinism, which is a condition that prevents melanin from being produced in cells at all.

The white giraffes were first seen in Kenya in March 2016, but the family went viral on the internet a year later after their images were shared on social media platforms.

The sad part about this news is that 40 percent of the giraffe population all over the world has been lost in just the past 30 years.

Poaching, habitat loss, and wildlife trafficking are contributing a lot to the decline of their numbers.

The Kenya Wildlife Society, which is the leading conservation society in Kenya, officially announced that they are investigating the killings.

It is a sad day for all the animal lovers and appreciators out there.
