Turtles Smothered In Black Oil Are Washing Up On Brazilian Beaches

Turtles covered in black oil are washing up on Brazilian beaches along with petrol-based substances that are washing up on the beaches.

A sea turtle was found smothered in black oil on the Praia de Alcantara beach in Maranhao, a state in Brazil.

The turtle was seen lying in the sand, while it attempted to crawl back into the sea.

One dead turtle was found on a beach on the Ilha dos Poldros in Piaui, a state in Brazil.

You could see black oil dripping on the shells of the turtle.

Another video showed a sea turtle covered in oil in the Redinha beach in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

The people who rescued the turtle brought it to the Natal Aquarium, Paraiba, where they tried to scrub off the thick layer of the oil.

The turtle is currently under observation and under treatment in the Natal Aquarium in Paraiba.

According to local news agencies in Brazil, animals covered in black oil have been discovered on 39 beaches across the north-eastern parts of Brazil.

The Ministry of the Environment has launched an investigation after the pictures and videos of the animals went viral on social media.

Images that went viral showed black oil substances on the Praia do Paracuru beach.

The Ministry of the Environment analyzed and reports suggested that a lot of substances that were found on the beach s hydrocarbon which is derived from petroleum.

According to local news agencies, the substances started to show up on the beaches since September 2019 and have affected the lives of at least 6 reptiles.

Authorities are still trying to find out where the substances came from.

According to the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources, they are collecting and are analyzing the material found on the beaches so they could identify the person who’s responsible for the oil washing up on the beaches.

Experts believe the oil was dumped by a boat.
