Man From UK Gets Permission To Keep 2 Lion Cubs In His Backyard
Reece Oliver, a 28-year-old man from Nottinghamshire, has been granted permission to keep 2 lions inside his home even after some of his neighbors have objected.
Oliver saved the two lion cubs from a circus in the Czech Republic earlier this year.
The man saved Rora and Rocky on February and even paid to ship the animals to the United Kingdom so he could keep them inside his home.
Reece already has a puma inside his house named Rogue.
But, the Broxtowe Borough Council said that he needs to have permission so he could keep the wild animals behind his house as the land was previously used as a stable yard and not an enclosure for wild animals.
Reece, who is licensed to keep wild or exotic animals, said that he did not now he had to apply for permission so he could make an enclosure at his backyard.
After Reece submitted the application, 14 neighbors objected the fact that there would be wild animals living in their neighborhood as they were being concerned about the welfare of their own pets.
Even after 14 of his neighbors objected about it, Reece did not give up and continued the application.
He said that the Cubs needed a home and they were like his “kids”.
He said, “They are like my own kids. I’ve had them since they were babies and I have brought them up. I wouldn’t want to give them up for the world. It’s more than likely they will be put down if it’s turned down. It would be devastating. It would be terrible – crushing – if I don’t get the permission. It would be like someone taking my children away from me.”
And last night, after all the waiting, the committee granted permission to Reece that he could keep his wild cats.
During an interview after the committee granted him permission, he said, “It’s the best feeling in the world, it’s the best result ever. It’s aged me though. These last few weeks have been extremely stressful, but I know those animals would have had to have been put down.”
