Taliban Leader Says Music Will Be Banned And Women Should Have A Male Chaperone With Them While Travelling
According to a statement released by the leader of the Taliban organization, music is going to be banned in the country and women are going to have a male chaperone travelling with them in case they have to do it for 3 days.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Taliban, announced that music is going to be banned in the country.
They also said that women are going to have to travel with a male chaperone on trips that last several days.
During an interview with the New York Times, Mujahid said that women will eventually be allowed to return back to work and then go to schools and hospitals.
However when it comes to long travelling, they are required to have a male chaperone with them.
They also said that music is going to be banned in the country.
During the interview, Mujahid said:
Music is forbidden in Islam, but we’re hoping that we can persuade people not to do such things, instead of pressure them. We want to build the future and forget what happened in the past.
The spokesman also rejected reports that the Taliban is already extracting vengeance on people that opposed them.
Not only that, but they also rejected reports that they are trying to reimpose harsh restrictions on women that made them notorious when they first took control of the country back in 1996.
During the interview, he suggested to the New York Times that the Taliban are going to allow women to go back to their jobs in the future.
They also cleared out that women are going to be required to wear a head covering.
The spokesperson also talked about people that are leaving the country.
Mujahid said that people with proper travel documents are going to be allowed to leave the country and added that they are not going to hunt down former interpreters and others that have worked with the American Military over the years.
He also talked about the Americans allowing their citizens to leave the country.
Mujahid said:
They shouldn’t interfere in our country and take out our human resources: doctors, professors and other people we need here. In America, they might become dishwashers or cooks. It’s inhuman.
When asked about diplomatic relationships with other countries, Mujahid said that they are hopeful that the Taliban are going to make good relationships with the international communities.
He also mentioned during the interview with they have cooperated with international leaders on major issues such as counterterrorism, opium eradication and the reduction of refugees to the West.
The remarks of Mujahid come a day after he asked women in the country to stay inside their houses until the Taliban members have a new procedure in place.
They also said that they are currently training the forces in the country to stop harassing women.
Talking about mistreating women, he said:
We are worried our forces, who are new and have not been yet trained very well, may mistreat women. We don’t want our forces, God forbid, to harm or harass women.
In the meantime, Mujahid said that the salaries of the women are going to be paid inside their houses.
Ahmadullah Waseq, the deputy of the Taliban’s cultural affairs committee, recently said that the Taliban does not have any problems with women working.
They also made it clear that women who would like to work are going to wear hijabs.
As of now, women are still disallowed to do a number of things in Afghanistan.
