Seva, a word that means to help people in the time of their need, is something that is practiced very well in the religion of Sikhism.

On August 5, 2020, 3 kids, which includes two 8-year-old girls and a 10-year-old boy, were playing in Kings River, California, when they got swept away in the water.
Upon noticing this, 29-year-old Manjeet Singh, a Sikh from India, jumped and rescued the kids from drowning.
Manjeet Singh was standing on the bank when he saw the kids struggling.
Singh did know the kids and was just someone at the river bank when the incident happened.
Shortly after jumping in, Singh was pulled underwater.
Bystanders pulled the 2 children out to safety, however, one 8-year-old girl stayed underwater for 15 minutes before she was saved.
CPR was performed on the girl and she was rushed to a local hospital.
Singh was found after 40 minutes, but he was unresponsive.
He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 8-year-old girl is currently in a critical condition and is on life support.
She is currently admitted to the Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno.
