German Authorities Seize 4.5 Tons of Cocaine Worth $1.1 Billion USD
Authorities in Germany seized 4.5 tons of cocaine that has an estimated worth of $1.1 Billion USD, it is currently considered as the biggest drug bust of Germany.
Authorities said that they examined the shipping container 2 weeks ago after they found it suspicious.
Reports suggest that the shipping container made its way into Germany from Montevideo, which is the capital of Uruguay, and was headed towards Antwerp, which is in Belgium.
Instead of finding soybean products, authorities found 221 sports bag that had 4,200 packets of pressed cocaine in total.
The customs department of Germany released a statement about the drug haul.
They said, “This enormous amount represents the largest single seizure of cocaine in Germany. The confiscated cocaine was destroyed under strict and extensive security measures. Assuming that this probably very pure cocaine can be diluted to triple the amount for street sale, the 4.5 tons have a street value of approximately one billion euros.”
The investigating officers are trying to find about the person who was supposed to receive the container and its goods.
The previous record for the biggest haul was 3.8 tonnes and was made in 2017 from Hamburg.
