Heatwave: Police Had To Smash Car Window To Save Dog Left In Hot Car

On July 25th, 2019, a police officer from Leeds, West Yorkshire, alerted a shopper who left their dog inside their vehicle during one of the hottest days ever recorded in the month of July.

The dog was left inside the car while having a little bit of its window down as the owner of the dog shopped at the market.

Sargent Ian Micklethwaite tweeted about the incident, he said “In the space of fewer than 10 minutes the dog was starting to pant/overheat. Just don’t do it.”

In a report that was published by The Sun, the police had to smash the window of the car to save the dog.

Owners are advised not to leave pets inside their vehicles during heatwaves, especially this week as temperatures are going nuts.

The police then released a statement about the incident.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Many people still believe that it’s OK to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they’re parked in the shade, but the truth is, it’s still a very dangerous situation for the dog.

The spokesman added, “A car can become as hot as an oven very quickly, even when it doesn’t feel that warm. When it’s 22 degrees, in a car it can reach an unbearable 47 degrees within the hour.”

A police officer who smashed the window of the car said that the owner of the car was not happy with their actions because their window was a bit open.
