EDRC Of L&T Construction Asks Louis Berger To Review Durgam Cheruvu Bridge Design

Hyderabad News: On Wednesday, the EDRC (Engineering, Design and Research Center) of the Special Bridges division of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction has awarded a contract to Louis Berge. The American civil engineer was asked to provide an independent design review of the Durgam Cheruvu Bridge in Hyderabad.

Speaking about the same, a senior vice-president and managing director for Asia, Kshitish Nadgauda said in a statement.

“We’re honoured to play a role on the Durgam Cheruvu Bridge project, which will address the region’s traffic woes and cater to the future needs of the Hyderabad Information Technology and Engineering Consultancy City,”

“We look forward to leveraging our global design expertise to support the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation,” he added.

The extra dosed bridge across the Durgam Cheruvu Lake, characterized by shallow-angle external cables, will be approximately 735 meters long (2,411 feet), with the main bridge having a 96-metre+234-metre+96-metre three-span configuration.

The bridge has a 26-metre overall width, with a two-lane carriageway and sidewalk on each side of the divided carriageway.

It will connect Ambedkar University to the Inorbit Mall in Madhapur. In addition to improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion, the bridge is also expected to increase tourism prospects in the region.

Under the contract, Louis Berger will provide an independent design review of the main extradosed cable-stayed bridge, approach viaduct spans, as well as of the approach road, geotechnical interpretative report (GIR) and highway alignment.

The total estimated cost of construction is ₹147 crore ($22.8 million).
