Three Year Old James Tufts Becomes Youngest Mayor Of Minnesota Town

In the small town of Dorset a three-year-old boy, James Tufts has became the youngest mayor in Minnesota’s history. He knows exactly what it means to be a leader:  “Being nice and no poopy talk.”

At the annual Taste of Dorset food festival his name was drawn from the ballot bucket to serve as a ceremonial head of the tiny northern Minnesota town, which has a total population of 22 people. One can vote for a person any number of times but it cost $1 for each vote cast.

Robert,six-year-old is brother of James tufts he was elected as a mayor for two consecutive years 2012 and 2013 and served two terms as mayor of a small town in northern Minnesota at ages 3 and 4. He has got a few valuable pieces of advice from an experienced political adviser that is from his brother since he succeeded his elder sibling as mayor of a small town in northern Minnesota. He taught him how to shake hands and look voters in the eye.

It seems that James have no trouble being addressed as “Mr. Mayor.” In an interview with TODAY.com ,”I wanted to be the mayor so much,It’s pretty awesome,” told James.

During a brief phone interview, “I’m doing pretty good,” James said, adding that he likes being mayor. As James begins his one-year term and told he is happy that “everybody likes me,” Robert is ready to lend a hand.

Emma Tufts described them as outgoing and friendly ,she is proud of her sons as these little charmers, who have used the post to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Salvation Army and often get stopped for photos and attract tons of attention.

“It’s pretty awesome because they are doing so much good with it,” she added.

“I think they’re going to be legendary as a team,” said said their mom, who wonders what the future holds. “They’re going to be memorable people. You can just see it in their personality and spirit.”

“Robert just initiated that conversation with James on how to help people,” she said, adding that they decided on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “They know what it means to help people,” she said. “They really are just selfless boys.”

“The town of Dorset has been so good to my family, we would do anything they asked us to do to help them,” said Tufts, who believes her sons are the nation’s youngest mayors. “I will encourage them to do whatever it is that they choose,” she said. “If it’s politics, I guess I would have to deal with it.”

The boys’ willingness to assist others shows they are “not always just being crazy kids,” Tufts says.

Being mayor is all in good fun, Tufts hopes that he learns to talk to people as they appear at festivals and parades will serve the boys well later in school and as adults.
