Army Chief General of Pakistan gets life imprisonment for leaking information to foreign agencies

The army of Pakistan gave life imprisonment to Qamar Javed Bajwa, the army chief General, for spying charges and leaking sensitive information to foreign agencies. The army has also ordered the death penalty for a civilian officer and a brigadier, they are also involved in the same spying case.

A statement that was released by the Pakistani Army said that Qamar Javed Bajwa, the army chief General of Pakistan, pleaded guilty in “espionage (and) leaking sensitive information to foreign agencies in detriment to national security.”

Javed Iqbal, a retired Lieutenant General, has been sentenced for a life term, which means he will be spending 14 years in prison.

Raja Rizwan, a retired Brigadier, and Wasim Akram, a doctor that was employed under the army, has been sentenced for the death penalty.

No further information about the sentencing was released by the Pakistani Army, it is still not clear to whom did the 3 men share the sensitive information with.

The army of Pakistan has its own courts with its own laws, and officers in the military who are being accused of doing wrong things, go through a trial that is held behind closed doors.

If someone does not agree with the rulings, they can only be reviewed or challenged in accordance with the procedures of the Pakistani Army.
