101-Year-Old Widow Died After Home-Health Aide Broke Both Her Legs While Trying To Pull Her From Bed
Emily Sims, a 101-year-old widow woman, died after her home-caregiver broke both her legs when she was trying to get her out of the bed.
According to the Mail Online, Emily Sims died after Beryl Allen, her home-health aide, forcefully swung her legs out of the bed by the ankles.
The extreme force broke her legs and she sustained fatal injuries.
An investigation, which was launched to find out the reason behind her fatal injuries, ruled that the death of 101-year-old Emily Sims was the result of mishandling.
Before passing away, Emily told her niece that Beryl grabbed her by her ankles and swung them to the floor.
Emily said she toppled onto the ground and broke both her thigh bones.
The bilateral spiral fractures in her femurs led to a perforated duodenal ulcer, which later caused her death.
Before passing away on November 2017, Emily talked with the police and told the investigating officers that Beryl was responsible for her injuries.
While talking to the police, she said, “She’s too rough with me, she pulls me around.”
She added, “She ought not be a carer – she’s too heavy-handed.”
Allen refused to cooperate with the police at that time.
