Boss Welcomes Back Employees With $1,000 Bonuses So They Can Spend Them On Local Businesses
New Zealanders were given allowed to work back and do what they had been doing since the beginning after becoming the first country in the world to eradicate the coronavirus.
Despite the lifting of lockdown restrictions, employees were nervous about the state of businesses.
Jenny Beck, a corporate business attorney that runs a law office in Dunedin, heard that small businesses were having problems keeping up because they heavily relied on tourism.
Since the coronavirus lockdown, no tourism people have entered the country.
This is why Beck came up with an amazing idea.
Beck carried out a staff meeting with everyone on the first day of work, which made everyone anxious.
Instead of salary cuts and deduction of workers, the law firm gave each employee $1,000 in cash so they could spend them on local businesses.
She said:
I told them, and just about everyone cried—and I felt like crying myself.
Jenny advised the staff to spend the money on small businesses, go on long weekends, pay for food at local restaurants, tourist attractions, or spend on other things that would help the local economies roll again.
Beck explained:
I also thought it would be fun, in that my staff would be able to report back on their breaks, and give everyone a boost.
The staffs of the law firm are planning trips to National Park, their favorite restaurants, and kayak rental places.
