Footage that is viral on the internet right now shows a circus black bear mauling its Chinese trainer during their performance.

It is reported that the incident happened in China.

In the video, the bear could be seen attacking the trainer while 3 other colleagues tried to stop the unfortunate incident was happening.

The incident was caught on cam by a member of the audience at a circus in Qinghetou, which is located in the county of Puyang, the eastern Chinese province of Henan.

The incident reportedly happened on October 2, 2020.

The footage shows the black bear knocking the trainer to the floor midway through the performance.

The bear then started to bite his clothes.

The bear, which is around 200 kilograms, placed all its force on the top of the trainer. The bear then refused to let him go as other people started to batter its huge body with poles in a failed attempt to scare off the bear.

The trainer and the bear had reportedly been performing together for a number of years.

It is said that this is the first incident of its kind.

Li Jun, the owner of the animal, said:

The reason it happened is because someone in the audience threw a piece of ham on the stage. I picked up the ham and did not give it to the bear so it was angry and unwilling to perform. People should not throw food on the stage during a circus performance. Our performance animals have no teeth. We are afraid of accidents so we have been filing down their teeth since they were young.

Local authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

The bear did not attack anyone in the audience.

The police later confirmed that the circus has been suspended.

Authorities treated the trainer of the bear for the injuries that he had sustained in the incident.

He was also vaccinated due to the fact that he might catch an infection from the bear.

The bear that attacked its trainer was sent back to Wuxi City.

The current condition and the future of the black bear remain unknown.
