Coronavirus Is Capable Of Surviving On Smartphones And Money For 28 Days, Says New Study
Researchers that are trying to understand how the coronavirus is working are coming up with discoveries that would leave us shocked.
In the latest study that was carried out, researchers found out that the coronavirus capable of surviving on smartphones and money for 28 days.
The study was carried out by the National Science Agency of Australia.
The study revealed that the coronavirus pandemic is capable of surviving for longer than what researchers all over the world initially had thought.
According to a report that was published by BBC, previous studies of the SARS-Cov-2 (COVID-19) suggested that the virus is capable of surviving for 2 to 3 days on banknotes and glass. The same study suggested that the virus is capable of surviving for 6 days on plastic and stainless steel.
But according to recent reports, those numbers are wrong.
The latest research from CSIRO found out that the coronavirus is capable of lasting for 28 days on smooth surfaces, which includes mobile phone screens, plastic, and paper banknotes in case the materials mentioned were being kept in a room that had a room temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
CSIRO chief executive Dr. Larry Marshall released a statement about the study.
The statement reads:
Establishing how long the virus really remains viable on surfaces enables us to more accurately predict and mitigate its spread, and do a better job of protecting our people.
According to the research paper, survival rates of the coronavirus were found out depending on the temperatures.
The researchers obtained half-lives between 1.7 and 2.7 days at 20°C.
Days were reduced to a number of hours when the temperature of the room was elevated to 40 degrees Celsius.
The study then went on to help us understand that the coronavirus was isolated for up to 28 days at 20 degrees celsius from common surfaces such as stainless steel, paper, polymer banknotes, and glass.
The study conclusion helped us understand that the findings by researchers helped us understand that the coronavirus is capable of remaining on surfaces for a longer period of time than we initially thought.
The researchers wrote:
These findings demonstrate SARS-CoV-2 can remain infectious for significantly longer time periods than generally considered possible. These results could be used to inform improved risk mitigation procedures to prevent the fomite spread of COVID-19.
Stay safe everyone, and make sure you sanitize your devices and house surfaces to minimize the chances of contracting the deadly disease.
