Ravichandran Ashwin Takes A Brutal Jibe At South African Batsman Gibbs
Twitter has become a literal window for the celebrities to interact with their fans and followers. For the time being the major factor, we can see cricketers and actors sporting their lifestyle on the social media handles and sharing their personal life things winning the fans’ hearts. Not just that, many prominent people even endorse some popular brands as a part of the promotion and that’s how they earn some fair amount of bucks off the profession.
Now, it is the ugly spat between former Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs and ace Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin that left the netizens in utter surprise. The verbal chat took an ugly turn when Ashwin went talking about the Gibbs’ alleged involvement in the 2000 match-fixing scandal replying to a jibe about his perceived inability to run fast.
It all started when Gibbs replied to Ashwin’s post regarding a running shoe brand, Gibbs went saying that the new footwear would help enhance the spinner’s ability to run fast. Ashwin, though, took the war of words to a higher level with a sharp retort.
“…I wasn’t as blessed as you were. But I was blessed with a wonderfully ethical mind not to fix games which put food on my plate,” said Ashwin taking a swipe at Gibbs, who was fined and suspended for six months by his national board after admitting he agreed to under-perform in a one-day international as part of the match-fixing scandal spearheaded by then South Africa captain Hansie Cronje.
Here’s Gibbs’ reply,
Hopefully you will be able to run a bit faster now ashwin 😂

Soon after recognizing that his joke didn’t go well, Gibbs chose to douse the fire choosing not to retaliate.

Irked with this, Ashwin went writing, “I wasn’t as blessed as you were. But I was blessed with a wonderfully ethical mind not to fix games which put food on my plate”.
To this reply, he received heavy backlash on social media platforms and deleted it then. Thinking that he might have over-reacted to that, Ashwin wrote, “I am totally game for this sort of fun mate, we shall dine over this sometime”.
I totally believed my reply was a joke too, but look how people and yourself perceived it. I am totally game for this sort of fun mate, we shall dine over this sometime.😂 https://t.co/Z7YdXQnxeD

Back then in 2006, the South African batsman agreed that he was offered to underperform in exchange for money in 2000. This money was given to him by Cronje, who was subsequently banned from cricket for life. It was Gibbs’ first trip to India since the scandal broke out.
Gibbs later played for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
