Anil Kumble, within the short span of being Team India’s coach, has helped India in clinching possible trophies and tournaments. Though his career as the coach was disrupted amidst the quite amusingly winning streak of the Indian team, there’s always a soft corner on either side and that least stained his name and fame.

Aside from this, there is always this void of the incompetent friendship of Kumble and Kohli. They both were never on good terms. The way Kumble has signed off is the valid proof of this. We all had expected that it would have been good if there was a proper tweet from Kohli on the former coach’s birthday which didn’t happen at all.

However, right from being walking away from the coach position, Anil Kumble has never looked back. In the recent session of high-profile interaction with Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella on Tuesday, Kumble has opened up on various things which he never disclosed before.

With the record of taking highest Test wickets for India, he was talking about aspects that define one’s approach to leadership when he pointed out his grandfather was a school headmaster and inculcated the value of education with sports. He said, “Self-belief comes from values you inculcate…my grandfather was a headmaster. That term kept coming back to me later in life. Some of you here will understand.”

It is assumed that his statements are somehow related to Kohli. There was a talk stating that Kumble had behaved like a ‘headmaster’ that had suffocated some of the players.

The interaction session has happened as Kumble, who holds a mechanical engineering degree, shares the common ground with Hyderabad-born Nadella, who was an off-spinner in the school days and who still follows the game closely.

Kumble, on the whole, didn’t speak up anything about the specific issues that soured his relationship with Kohli since stepping down at the end of the ICC Champions Trophy.
