We have seen India’s former captain MS Dhoni in various forms such as wicket-keeping, score centuries, taking right choices, guide current skipper Virat Kohli and even nap during a match on the field. Even though the saying goes, jack of all traits and master of none but Dhoni is quite the opposite.

He is a man with fewer words, but greater abilities. People have known him for his lightning-quick wicket keeping abilities and his prowess with the willow, which of late has been much of a debatable topic. But what fans have rarely witnessed his bowling ability.

Dhoni has in the past bamboozled batsmen with his leg-spin bowling and now the former captain has unleashed a new weapon from his armory with a seam up delivery. From the polluted ‘Gas Chamber’ of National Capital, the action has now shifted to the most scenic cricket stadium in the country.

After beating Sri Lanka in the three-match Test series 1-0, Indian players were seen sweating it out at the practice session in Dharamsala on Saturday. Dhoni, who is in top form with the bat at the moment, joined the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah at the nets and rolled over his arms for some swing bowling.

With the conditions expected to be cold, Dhoni might well roll over his arm and bowl a few overs. Dhoni, in fact, has already taken a wicket in ODIs, his victim being Travis Dowlin of the West Indies. He has earlier bowled overs in England, where the conditions suit the seamers, it will be interesting to see if he does the same in India.

In the latest video posted by BCCI, Dhoni can be seen assisting team India with seam-bowling, a day ahead of Dharamsala ODI against Sri Lanka. The slow-motion effect in the video did bring out a flaw in his bowling, it was a No Ball. But the batsman was surely left in a fix as his deliveries happened to beat Axar on all ends. The left-hander could face just one delivery, the rest two zipped past his bat.

In Kohli’s absence, who is taking a break and missing limited-overs series against Sri Lanka this month, the focus will shift to the experienced Dhoni for his guidance to Rohit Sharma.

India had earlier this year swept aside Sri Lanka 5-0 in their own backyard. Having won five straight bilateral series this year apart from reaching Champions Trophy final, a 3-0 win will put India on top of ICC ODI rankings, overtaking South Africa.

The second match is at Mohali on December 13 and the last ODI is at Vishakhapatnam on December 17.
