[WATCH] BIG BLUNDER: Even DRS Is Wrong, Shikhar Dhawan Survives Umpiring Howler With Instant Review
After the defeat in the first ODI against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, team India fought back brilliantly in the second ODI in Pune to level the 3-match ODI series 1-1. Firstly, it was the Indian bowlers Bhuvi and Bumrah who were successful in restricting the Kiwis to 230 in 50 overs.
However, the Indian batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik played really well and scored the fifties to reach the target in 46 overs. India won the match by six wickets leveling the series at MCA ground, Pune.
Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for the team while chasing a moderate total of 230 runs. Though his impressive knock looked to have ended prematurely after the on-field umpire gave him out caught behind but a successful review kept the left-hander intact on the crease.
Dhawan’s knock was not devoid of drama. India relied on Dhawan’s tenacity as the Kiwis continue to fight for every single run. In the 21st over, Colin Munro missed the line, going down. But the Kiwis went for a huge caught behind appeal with umpire Chettithody Shamsuddin nodding in agreement.
Dhawan, however, immediately reviewed. He was batting on 46 when the umpire made the mistake. Despite the ball seemed to touch the bat, the review went in favor of batsman and Dhawan went on to score his 22nd ODI fifty.
