Why Quinton De Kock Wore Hashim Amla’s Jersey In The First T20I Against Bangladesh? Here’s The Reason Why!
After having totally dominated the opposition in the Test and the ODI series, the action moved to Bloemfontein for the first T20I between South Africa and Bangladesh at Bloemfontein. If you had seen the first T20 match, you might have seen two Hashim Amlas in the match. Got confused? We are not kidding.
South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and veteran batsman Hashim Amla are known to be great friends off the field and great partners on the field. Both had some brilliant partnerships against their opponents. They form a frightening opening pair for the Proteas side in the limited overs formats of the game.
Both of them form a resolute opening pair for the Proteas and have gone strength to strength as a reliable openers. Recently, their bonhomie was seen in an unusual incident during the 1st T20 against Bangladesh. When the South African skipper, JP Duminy won the toss, both the openers Amla and de Kock stepped in leaving the crowd baffled.
They were in a funny dilemma seeing the jerseys of both the openers read the same name. It seemed like Hashim Amla and Hashim Amla have walked onto the crease. Quinton de Kock was seen sporting the jersey of Hashim Amla. Well, on a serious note, de Kock was forced to sport Amla’s jersey.
We know for a fact that Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock are amply dear friends but that does not validate as a reason for De Kock wearing Amla’s jersey. As everyone was rendered guessing as to why they see what they see, the commentators later made it clear. They revealed that apparently, the wicketkeeper-batsman had lost his jersey ahead of the start of the match.
Thus, the confusion ended in the audience and the Television viewers. But the confusion for the fans did not last long though. Hashim Amla perished early in the match. However, de Kock (44 balls 59) continued to bat along as AB de Villiers joined him at the crease. ABD showed an outstanding performance scoring 27 balls 49.
Talking about the series, South Africa have totally dominated the series. They thoroughly outplayed Bangladesh in the Test series. After having won the Test series 2-0, they did not give the visitors a sniff in the ODI series either. They won the ODI series 3-0. South Africa went on to win the first T20 match by 20 runs as they set a target of 195 for the visitors.
