Australian Cricket Team Bus Attacked In Bangladesh, Window Broken After Hitting By Stone

Australian cricket team is currently touring Bangladesh for 2-match Test series. It’s been like a reborn to the game in Bangladesh team with the current crops punching above their weight to beat some big names, including Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand.

Eventually, the hosts had marked a historic 20-run win against Australia in the 1st Test. The second Test started on September 4 and the hosts scored 253 for the loss of 6 wickets. Soon after the Day-1 play wrapped up, the visiting team bus along with the players was on the way back to the hotel.

Shocking, the team bus was hit by a stone on the way back to the hotel in Chittagong. Cricket Australia (CA), however,  insisted it is comfortable with security in Bangladesh following the incident in which a window of the team bus was smashed.

CA said the window was broken by a “small rock or stone” as Australia’s players were returning to the team hotel. Luckily, no one was injured. “En route back to the hotel last night a window on the Australian team bus was broken. No one was injured in the incident,” CA’s security manager Sean Carroll said in a statement.

Team security personnel are currently in discussion with local authorities while they investigate the cause, which is believed to have come from a small rock or stone. “Bangladesh authorities are taking the incident seriously and security has been increased on the route.”

CA added that it was “happy with security measures that have been in place and we are comfortable with the response from the Bangladesh authorities and the increased security presence we have been provided in light of the incident”.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar told a pebble kicked up by a police escort van providing security to the Australian team might have been responsible for the broken window. He said parts of the road back to the Australia team hotel was being repaired and there were a lot of pebbles.

“Still, we have set up a three-member inquiry team and they are investigating it. The incident took place at 6:30 pm at Mansurabad neighborhood (in Chittagong) on the way to the hotel. We can assure that there is no problem with security. (The) Australian team has arrived in the ground today. They are happy with security,” Iqbal said.

Australia is playing their first Test series in Bangladesh since Ricky Ponting’s team visited in 2006. They were due to play two Tests in Bangladesh in October 2015 but the tour was canceled amid security fears after attacks by Islamist extremists in the Muslim-majority nation.
