‘Virender Sehwag Is Not Selected As India’s Head Coach’ And Here’s The Reason
It all started when Ravi Shastri quoted that he will apply for the position only if he is guaranteed to be selected. Later, many prominent players like Tom Moody and Virender Sehwag also applied for the same.
Coming to the facts, we all knew that, out of ten applicants: Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Craig McDermott, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma, Lalchand Rajput, Phil Simmons, Tom Moody, Dodda Ganesh and Richard Pybus, only six were shortlisted for the interview and they are Sehwag, Pybus, Rajput, Shastri, Simmons, and Moody out of which Ravi Shastri ended up ascending the highest position.
Meanwhile, rumors claiming Sehwag as the favorite went viral on social media networks, however, the final results were something as we all expected from the very before.
Reasons regarding Sehwag’s denial for the position were however since the judgment day. Somehow, sources said, “after his stint as a mentor of Kings XI Punjab, Viru was growing more confident by the day that he had the potential required to work at a higher level in a similar capacity. It was then that a senior BCCI official asked him to apply if he could make up his mind.”
Sources further read what Indian skipper has told to Sehwag:
“Of course, Viru paa. Your contribution to Indian cricket is great and we’re all so familiar with you. I have no problems whatsoever in you applying for the role. Anybody who thinks he can contribute his best for Indian cricket can and should apply.”
Explaining his pre plans and the prospect of preferring Ravi Shastri over Sehwag, Kohli meant,
“Paaji, I have a lot of respect for you for what you can bring to the table but you have to understand that there is a professional set-up in place, therefore this cannot happen. The rest is up to the CAC, there is a support staff in place and has worked with this team for a while now. In fact, there are individuals who understand the needs of team members on an individual basis.”
Regarding the same, sources concluded, “the CAC did a fair job in assessing all candidates and came with the best possible decision, what went in Shastri’s favour was also the fact that he understood the importance of the work ethic put in place by the existing support staff members who have worked with the team for close to three years.”
