IPL 2016 season’s finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) haven’t enjoyed the best of results in the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL). The team failed to live up to the expectations of fans as they were confident that RCB will win this year’s IPL trophy.

Since the start of the 10 edition of IPL, RCB team has been continuously losing the games as their form was inconsistent in all departments. Though the team consists of some destructive batsmen Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Shane Watson, they only managed to win 2 out of 11 matches.

RCB had received huge blows ahead of the season with injuries to several of their key batsmen. While Lokesh Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan were ruled out of the entire tournament even before a ball was bowled, skipper Kohli and AB de Villiers missed out on the first few games due to injuries.

AB de Villiers About RCB Performance In IPL 10:

After the 5-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede on Monday, RCB was left second from bottom of the table with five points from 11 games and currently at the last position in the table after DD won the match against SRH on Tuesday. Reflecting upon RCB’s poor season, Proteas batsman AB de Villiers is hoping RCB can finish with their heads held high, while backing MI to go on and win the title.

“Unfortunately, this year we haven’t played well as wanted to, but I think there are some valuable lessons we have learnt throughout the season, I think we have let ourselves down a little bit in the last few games by not competing as well as we would have wanted to,” said the Protean in a promotional event in Mumbai.

“I thought we were right in the game, which was great and that is the kind of thing you want, that you want to compete. I was hoping we could somehow find a way to pull it through but it wasn’t meant to be. We have a few more games left and hopefully will finish the season with dignity. I think they (Mumbai Indians) have got a wonderful team as well and they have got a really good chance of going all the way during this season,” he added.

“I started my IPL career at the Delhi Daredevils for the first three years, which was a very good experience and then moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore, and this is my seventh season with them now. I could not have asked for a better franchise to play IPL for. They are a very professional unit. The memories stand out for me. I have created some great memories over the last 10 years, the fans, the electric vibes in the grounds that we get, the friendships I have made in and around the team, the people who support us,” commented the South African ODI captain.

He concluded by stating that India has a good chance to defend their Champions Trophy in a few days in England.

“My next commitment after the IPL is the Champions Trophy something that South Africans would love to win. India won it last time in England and they will be ready for a strong campaign around this year as well. There is quite a bit of cricket in the next few years and I would like to think that I am going to play for quite a few more years,” ABD concluded.

South Africa play Sri Lanka in a Group B encounter on June 3 at Kennington Oval, London. India and Pakistan also feature in the same pool.
