IPL 10: MS Dhoni Reprimanded For Breach Of Code Of Conduct

Mahendra Singh Dhoni turned for his first Indian Premier League (IPL) match as a non-captain on Thursday in Pune. Playing for hosts Rising Pune Supergiant, the legend was rather quiet behind the stumps until the 15th over against visiting Mumbai Indians.

During the match, MS Dhoni jokingly and sarcastically called for a review even as umpire S Ravi turned down an LBW appeal against Kieron Pollard off the second ball of the over, bowled by Imran Tahir.

But this funny act became so viral that MS Dhoni has been reprimanded by the match referee for breaching the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct during the match against the Mumbai Indians. An official press statement revealed the news but did not clarify as to why Dhoni was reprimanded.

As per the reports, Dhoni was found guilty of committing the Level 1 offense (Article 2.1.1). This kind of offense is said to be contrary to the spirit of the game. Dhoni cannot question the decision as in the cases of Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the verdict of the Match Referee in final and binding. The details about his offense are yet to be cleared in the media.

The level 2.1.1 breach is in relation to the IPL clothing regulations. It refers to a ‘commercial logo’ or a ‘player’s bat logo’ going against the prescribed code of conduct.

This rule is there to ensure that the professional standards of appearance on the field do not undermine the real objective of playing the game. Any alteration of the clothing equipment is said to be a breach of conduct. Apparently, there was this clothing breach that Dhoni was found guilty of.

Though an official confirmation revealing the reason of breach is yet to be issued, it is considered that the Jharkhand batsman will likely pay the price for his DRS gesture while keeping to an Imran Tahir delivery during yesterday`s match which RPS won by seven wickets.

Match referee Manu Nayyar seems to have not taken the joke nicely and the wicketkeeper-batsman received an official reprimand.

Pune opened their campaign with a thrilling win over Mumbai Indians on Thursday night in their own backyard. Batting first, Mumbai posted 184 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to a blistering 15-ball 35 from all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

RPS in reply rode on captain Steve Smith’s unbeaten 84 from 54 balls and Ajinkya Rahane’s 60 off 34 balls to overhaul the target with seven wickets and one ball to spare. Dhoni scored an unbeaten 12 in the run chase.
