Russia Starts “Sputnik V” Coronavirus Vaccine Production Despite Growing Fears
The country of Russia has started production of a coronavirus vaccine, which is the first in the world, and is aiming to roll it out by the end of this month.
Last week, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, said that the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine had been approved for production.
The health ministry of Russia released a statement about the news.
The statement reads:
The first batch of the novel coronavirus vaccine developed by the Gamaleya research institute has been produced.
Scientists and the World Health Organisation said that they are concerned about the vaccine.
Scientists in Russia reportedly conducted months of human trials but are still to release publish data to the public.
They did not begin the crucial Phase 3 stage.
The authorities in Russia later said that more than 2,000 people in Russia, Middle East, and Latin America took part in their study.
Typically, the test involves tens of thousands of people.
Vladimir Putin also said that one of his daughters have been vaccinated.
He also insisted that the vaccine was safe to use.
The vaccine, which is known as Sputnik V, was developed by the Gamaleya research institute for epidemiology and microbiology in Moscow in coordination with the Russian defence ministry.
