Finally After Five Years, Supreme Court Confirmed That Four Of The Rapists Of Nirbhaya Gangrape Case To Be Hanged Till Death!

Nearly five years after the Nirbhaya incident, the Supreme Court has finally confirmed the death sentence for four convicts in the gang rape and brutal murder of a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012.

Yes, the Court has announced death sentence for 4 convicts Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh and Akshay Thakur, who had gang-raped the 23-year-old medical student while she was returning home from a movie.

The incident triggered widespread protests across the country and led to major changes in laws related to rape, sexual harassment and delinquent acts.

There were violent protests all over India after the Delhi gang-rape that happened in December 2012, demanding new laws to provide the harsher penalty for rapists.

However, at last, the verdict was pronounced to loud applause in court, in the presence of the parents of the woman who came to be known as “Nirbhaya” or fearless. Her mother wept silently.

Four of the men held guilty of raping and torturing a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus in Delhi nearly five years ago will hang, the Supreme Court said today, describing the incident as a “story of a different world“.

The court referred to the dying declaration of the young woman and said the “brutal and demonic” crime had been proved beyond doubt.

In 2013, the decision was challenged in the trial court, which said that the convicts should be hanged. After this, the accused had appealed to the Supreme Court.

The court said, “The Nirbhaya rape-cum-murder case is rarest of rare case and we are compelled to give extreme punishment to ensure justice.”

Further, the court added that leniency can’t be granted to these convicts in any way because what they did was completely against humanity. Even Nirbhaya’s father was sure that death sentence will be given to them; he had complete faith in the judicial system and thankfully, the decision was given in favor of him.

This decision by Supreme Court has restored our faith in the judiciary; it has indeed set a great example and we seriously hope that the percentage of rape cases reduce after this.

Speaking about the whole incident police officer Chaya Sharma said,

Those who did this to me, do not spare them” – these were the last words that Nirbhaya told to me before her death.

Today, as the Supreme Court confirmed the death sentence for four of the rapists, the officer mentally thanked Nirbhaya for her consistent statements.

With this judgment by Supreme court, we can at least say that judiciary is finally taking rape crime seriously.Such people deserve a death penalty and we are happy that our judicial system is finally making sense.
