Why Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Wedding Was A Secret Ceremony? Why Did He Hide It?
Founder of Indian National Army and an eminent personality, admired for his exemplary efforts in bagging Independence, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, left his impressions on Indian history inspiring millions to fight for the Mother India’s Independence. And what all he has done to break the shackles of Imperialism is quite beyond words.
People who studied about his journey might not read much about his personal life except his childhood. Though Bose is a dynamic leader of Indian history, he kept the essential information of his personal life under the covers. Why did he decide to hide everything about his life?
Generally, people always hit search engines with the question about him regarding his profession, but not about his personal life, isn’t it? Why his personal life was a big secret, especially, his marriage.
We all know that Subhash Chandra Bose gave his blood and sweat to few revolutionary moments during freedom fight. He also inspired a lot of young brains with his words of wisdom. He started his own newspaper Swaraj and success knocked his door in spreading news and awareness about the freedom struggle.
Here, we are showcasing about never-seen-life of Bose and it all started with his stay in Bad Gastein, Austria. In 1933, an unfortunate injury led to the most beautiful thing in his life and it is LOVE. Based on Wikipedia page, Bose met Emilie Schenkl (his love of life) through a common friend Dr. Mathur, an Indian physician living in Vienna.
Emilie Schenkl was born in an Austrian Catholic family in Vienna. Schenkl is good at shorthand, speaking fluent English and typing skills, she was hired by Bose for writing his book, ‘The Indian Struggle’. They eventually married secretively in 1937. Despite getting married Schenkl never visited India. Bose and Schenkl had a child named Anita.
After the wedding, Bose came back to India and had appeared in Nazi Germany during 1941-1943. An interesting thing here is, Bose family was unaware of his marriage until Schenkl wrote a letter to Sarat Chandra Bose (brother of Subhash Chandra Bose).
Netaji used to be careful when it comes to the safety of his family. An intelligence report stated that Netaji’s marriage took place in 1942 and not 1937. Furthermore, it was reported that while applying for Visa to China, Netaji wrote ‘single’ as his marital status.
Netaji Had A Theory To Validate his Decision:
During all his public appearances, Netaji always made statements to mislead his opposition. His wife was a citizen of Austria that was under the clutches of the German empire. Any man would have been smart enough not to reveal such information and Netaji was no exception. It is believed that he always denied about having a family to protect his wife and daughter from the hardships that he faced as a freedom fighter and Indian citizen.
The Indian government doesn’t have any valid evidence to prove all the above-mentioned facts, it is clear that any family man would have done what Netaji did to assure the safety and prosperous life for his family.
During his stay, Netaji also met the German leader Adolf Hitler to seek his support for India’s Independence as Germany was fighting American-British allies.
