World Population day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987-approximately the date on which the world’s population reached five billion people. World Population Day aims at increase people’s awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.

There are many reasons for the growth of population in the world such as Poverty, Illiteracy, gender inequality etc. Among all the other reasons Gender Inequality has been one of the main reasons for the growth of population. According to the world records the population of India is about 1.31 billion and China tops the list with 1.38 billion populations.

The global population is expected to reach 8.6 billion by 2030, 9.8 billion by 2050 and 11.2 billion by 2100 as per the survey. According to the UN`s World Population reports the population of world is increasing 83 million every year. It also says that the fertility levels will continue to decrease in coming decades.

There are many activities are being planned for the World Population Day 2017 event. We can observe a theme on this day every year. This year the theme is `Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations`.

This year it marks the 17^th year of World Population day in 2017. It is estimated that around 225 million women wanted to avoid pregnancy but are not aware of or not using proper precautions towards it. Most of the women do not know about the contraceptives in 69 of the poorest countries on Earth.

World Population Day 2017 is aiming to expand voluntary family planning to increase and reach 120 million by 2020. Finally, World Population Day is doing everything as our Earth is in threat of overpopulation which can be controlled and taken care by people all over the world.
