Nicolas Synnott, a 59-year-old British Airways Pilot, was discharged from a hospital in Houston, USA, shortly before Christmas.

It was reported that Nicolas had spent 243 days of constant COVID treatment.

Nicolas was admitted to the hospital in March after tehy became ill following a flight to Houston.

They had suffered a respiratory failure and was treated with a ventilator then a heart and lung machine.

That happened before they were treated for their recovery.

During an interview with ABC 30 News, Nicolas said:

My temperature was spiking over 100 degrees… then I went through sort of a dark phase where psychologically there were issues I had to come to terms with. With the support of my wife, and the thought of going back to my kids. It was a tough journey but, we’ve got where we are.

Biswajit Kar, the cardiologist that was treating Nicolas, said that almost every organ of his body was affected by the virus.

Dr. Kar added:

Every organ of his body was affected by Covid-19. But yet, because his health was so good as a pilot prior to the illness, he could sustain all this and survive something as serious as this. We were firstly overwhelmed by the joy that someone this sick could make it.

Dr. Bindu Akkanti, a critical care specialist, said that the devotion of Nicolas’ wife is one of the main things that helped him recover.

The wife reportedly spent all day with her husband in the hospital.

Dr. Akkanti added:

I think all of us on our team agreed that it was his wife.

Nicolas said that he wants to visit the hospital in Houston in order to thank all the people that took care of him throughout his sickness days.

He also wants to visit the zoo that he looked at on a daily basis from his hospital window.
