5 Amazing Benefits Of Cabbages As Medicine

Cabbages are most commonly used in salads and also in preparing different types of meals as it enriches the taste and provides numerous nutrients. But, did you know that, besides being an amazing ingredient for various meals, cabbage is also used for treatments of health issues? The leaves of fresh cabbage are said to pull out the issues from our bodies just like a magnet. Namely, it can provide great benefits in the following cases:

1. Swellings caused by traumas

Whether you have been in an accident and got hit your arms or legs or just have small swelling due to a bump or have a sprain, just wrap the fresh cabbage leaves around the area and tighten them using a bandage because they’ll fall. Leave it overnight and see the magic. The next morning the cabbage leaf will look drained because its juices are absorbed by the skin.

NOTE: If you want to achieve the best possible results from this treatment, it is recommendable to sleep with the compress.

2. Pain due to breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is not easy, in fact it’s quite painful. Cabbage is indeed miraculous in healing inflammation caused by breastfeeding, swollen glands and other kinds of pain in the breast.

If women experience strong pain because of breastfeeding, putting cabbage leaves in the area will surely ease the pain. Carefully rinse the Cabbage leaves with cold water and then cut the stem from the center of each leaf. Try fitting them to your breasts but without covering your nipples. Then, place the leaves inside your bra and let the leaves stay for about 20 minutes or until the leaves become warm. Then, you can feel the pain go away. You can do this twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.

3. Thyroid gland issues

The thyroid gland is exceptionally important to your health, as its hormones boost metabolism, promote growth, and stimulate digestion. In order to restore the normal function of the thyroid gland, try putting some cabbage leaves on the throat where the gland is located (outside). Then, wrap the leaves with a bandage and leave it thus during the night. You need to sleep with the compress and you can remove the cabbage leaves the next morning.

Note: There is some medical concern that people who have a hypo-active thyroid gland should avoid cabbage as it’s responsible for worsening their condition.

Frequent Headaches usually occur due to nutrition deficiency, stress, tiredness, etc. Cabbages are rich in vitamins like C, K, Calcium etc. These vitamins work together to reduce the deficiency and relieve from frequent headaches.

(I) Take a medium sized cabbage and take the leaves in an inner portion which contain some moisture and clean with fresh water. Now place the leaves over your legs and chest before you sleep. The next morning, you can see the difference. The vitamins present in the leaves can actually remove stress from you and help you to get rid of frequent headaches.

(II) Or, you can place the leaves on your forehead or at the place where pain exists. Remove the leaves whenever it gets dry. It will take around 30 minutes of time for cabbage leaves to dry. If the pain still exists, take another set of fresh leaves and repeat the process.

Warm compress for Headaches:

Also, a warm compress made with cabbage leaves works as a treatment for frequent headaches. Take some fresh cabbage leaves and cut them into small pieces. Take a clean tube sock and pour some water in it. Add the cabbage leaves to the sock and tie the ingredients at the open end of the sock. Warm the tube sock for 30 seconds using a microwave oven. Now use that as a warm compress in the place where pain exists.

NOTE: Always check the compress heat before applying it in pain area. If it is not optimal, wait till the heat reaches its optimal temperature i.e., up to 26.7°C

Cabbage Soup for Headaches:

Cabbage in every form works as a source for reducing headaches. Cabbage soup is rich in not only taste but also extends its significance in treating frequent headaches.

Cut the leaves of fresh cabbage into large pieces. Now, take a pan, half filled with water and put cabbage leaves in it. When it’s reaching boiling point, add fried onion, tomato, garlic to the soup. Add some spices if you want. It’s advisable to avoid salt in the soup unless and until you cannot drink soup without salt. Take this soup daily in the morning for a month and you can get relieved from frequent headaches.

Frozen Cabbage for Headaches:

Frozen cabbage also helps you to relieve pain from frequent headaches. Take some fresh cabbage leaves and add them to a big pot of water. Allow the pot to boil for 90 seconds. If the water level goes down while boiling, add water to the pot. Now remove the leaves from the pot and immediately add it to cool water. Leave the setup for 90 seconds again. This helps you to prevent cabbage from overcooking. Now take a clean tube sock and add the mix to it slowly. If cool water still remains, no need to worry. Just throw it away. Now tie at the open end tightly. If possible, freeze that tube sock.

Now, sit down and place your feet in the lukewarm water and slightly bend head towards your knees. Place the tube sock at the base of your skull. This will help you to pull out blood from the extreme ends. Follow this process for 10 minutes every day and you will be relieved from the pain of frequent headaches.

Migraine Relief:

Cabbages play a vital role in the treatment of a migraine. Take some fresh cabbage leaves and make them paste using a blender. Take a fresh cotton cloth and spread the paste all over that cloth. Now, place that cloth on your head or at the part of your head where pain exists. Allow the paste to dry on your head. Rinse off with cool water once dried. You can also reapply the paste if pain still exists.

Relief from Chronic Headaches:

Issues caused with blood vessels inside and around the brain can lead to chronic headaches. It can include a stroke. Make a juice using fresh cabbage leaves and drink 25 to 50 ml daily. Follow this for a month and you will be relieved from chronic headaches.

Remember, the raw cabbage juice stays for 3 days in a refrigerator. But it’s always recommended to make fresh juice every time you drink.

Cabbage and Cucumber for a headache on the backside of head:

When you experience pain on the backside of the head, it is usually due to stress. This pain is not as severe as a migraine but immediate attention is required. Take some fresh cabbage leaves and place them in the freezer for 30 minutes and then place in a clean cloth.

Now pick the cloth along with cabbage leaves and tie it at the pain area. Make sure that the leaves touch the pain area and tie the cloth in the front part of the head. Now cut the cucumber and place it on your eyes. Cucumbers have the property of lowering the water retention in eyes and reducing stress. You can experience an instant relief from stress. Now relax by taking the support of your neck for 30 minutes or until the leaves dry. If you feel that pain still exist, change the leaves and repeat the process.

Remember, it’s always advisable to avoid cabbage before and after your surgeries as it’s responsible for your lowering blood sugar levels.
