In what many are considering one of the most brutal cases of rape and attempt to murder in Uttar Pradesh, India, a 16-year-old girl was raped by her neighbor and was set on fire afterward.

According to reports, the girl was raped and set on fire by a neighbor in Sambhal District, Uttar Pradesh.

The 16-year-old girl, whose identity was not shared with the public, sustained serious burn injuries from the incident.

Authorities said the incident happened on the evening of November 21, 2019.

The 16-year-old girl has been transferred to the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.

According to Alok Jaiswal, an Assistant Superintendent of the Police, the girl was alone when Zeeshan, the neighbor, came to their house and raped the girl.

The parents of the girl were attending a ceremony in a neighboring village.

Zeeshan later poured kerosene on the girl and set her on fire.

The girl was rushed to the district hospital in Uttar Pradesh, where she was referred to New Delhi.

The family of the 16-year-old girl registered a complaint against Zeeshan at the Nakhasa Police Station.

ASP Jaiswal said, “A doctor has informed that the victim has received 70% burn injuries. Further probe is on.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim told Zeeshan that she would tell her parents and the police about the incident.

This led Zeeshan to pour kerosene all over her and set her on fire.

An FIR (First Information Report) was lodged against the man and he was arrested afterward.

Authorities did not reveal the current health condition of the 16-year-old victim.
