16-Year-Old Indian Boy Commits Suicide After Unauthorized Village Court Asked Him To Pay Rs. 42,000 For Misbehaving With Women
On August 16, 2019, a 16-year-old boy from Guwahati, Assam, ended his life by jumping in front of a moving train after an unauthorized village court fined him Rs. 42,000 for misbehaving with women.
Reports suggest that the incident happened in the Bongaigaon District of Assam.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an unauthorized court in their village imposed an Rs. 42,000 fine at him and his family.
The family of the boy was really poor and couldn’t pay the amount of money.
A local said that the 16-year-old boy fell from his bike near two women, and the women claimed that he tried to rape him.
Another villager said that the boy was diagnosed with Jaundice.
Residents of the village beat him up after the 2 women claimed that he tried to rape them.
The boy was brought to the local court and his family was called to the informal court.
The court asked the family members of the boy to pay Rs. 42,000.
The family of the boy said that their son was humiliated by the court.
The police believe that the boy committed suicide after he realized they couldn’t pay the fine and after being humiliated by the unauthorized court.
The police have arrested one of the villagers for heading the so-called court.
The police have launched an investigation for the suicide case.
