22 Carat Gold Worth $52,000 Smuggled In Rectums, Seized In Chennai International Airport

The customs officials of the Chennai International Airport seized gold worth Rs. 37 lakhs from a man and a woman who arrived from Sri Lanka.

The gold was recovered from the rectum of the man and woman.

42-year-old Sivakumar Palaniyandi and 35-year-old Sagay Mary were detained at Chennai Airport for smuggling the gold in an illegal way.

Authorities seized 525 grams of 22-carat gold from Sivakumar. The gold seized from Sivakumar has a market value of Rs. 19.5 lakhs.

Sagar mary had 128 grams and 320 grams of gold worth Rs. 4.7 lakh and Rs. 12.6 lakhs.

Officials seized a total of 973 grams of gold worth Rs. 37 lakh from the man and the woman.

The 2 were arrested under the Customs Act 1962.

An official investigation for the case has been launched.
