A 23-year-old man that was pursuing his aviation diploma course was arrested for drugging and raping a 20-year-old woman in a hotel in Tajganj, Uttar Pradesh.

The police identified the man as 23-year-old Darsh Gautam, who hails from Hathras District.

Gautam was living with his parents in the Rohta area, which is located in the jurisdiction of the Sadar Police Station in Agra.

He was pursuing a diploma in aviation from a private institute.

The police arrested him for rape under the Indian Penal Code section 376.

Gautam is originally from Sadabad, Hathras district and was living in rented accommodation with his parents as he pursued a diploma in aviation.

According to the police, the victim and accused came in touch more than a month ago via Instagram.

Babloo Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police Agra, released a statement about the incident.

In the statement, SSP Kumar said, “A CCTV footage retrieved by police showed that on Wednesday morning, the duo reached to a hotel in Tajganj area, where the victim was raped. The victim in her statement has claimed that she was offered a drink after which she fell unconscious. One hour later, when she gained conscious, she found injury marks on her private parts.”

He added, “The accused left the girl near Bijli Ghar chouraha after which the victim traveled to a private hospital near Bhagwan Talkies intersection for medical aid. Later, her friends took the victim to S N Medical College.”

The police said that Gautam was arrested in Aligarh, where he went to attend a wedding ceremony with his 3 friends.

The SSP said Gautam confessed his crime to the police.

Sources claim that the 3 friends of Gautam and the hotel staff were detained by the police for investigation purposes.

The victim, whose identity was not shared with the public to protect her privacy, underwent a medical examination, which ruled that she suffered brutal sexual assault with a torn injury in her private part.

The police said, “The victim was served vodka by the accused before raping her.”

The 20-year-old victim is an undergraduate student at a university in Uttar Pradesh.
