Women pretending to be man marries two women for dowry in Nainital

A 25-year- girl, pretended to be a man for a long time, tricked two ladies into wedding her and tormented one of them for dowry, police in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani said on Thursday.

Sweety Sen, a local of Dhampur in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnore, was “always a tomboy” and began acting like a man, Krishna, in 2013, said Nainital’s senior director of police Janmejay Khanduri. She was captured on February 14 on charges of impersonation, deceit, and fraud.

“The woman used to act like a man as far as looks and tempted ladies on Facebook and later married them,” Khanduri said.

Police said Sen made a Facebook account in the name of Krishna Sen in 2013 and transferred photographs acting like a man. She, at that point,  talked with a few ladies via web-based networking media.

In 2014, Sen ventured out to Haldwani’s Kathgodam region to meet a lady she got to know on a social media website on the internet. She told the Uttarakhand lady, recognized as Kamini, that she was the child of a businessman from Aligarh, said the police. The two ladies got hitched soon after that, and in the blink of an eye a short time later, Sen purportedly fired whipping Kamini, who holds two masters degrees, for dowry. Sen allegedly took Rs 8.5 lakh from Kamini’s family, police said.

“We got hitched in 2014, she used to act like a man, used to drink, smoke and abuse her. She used to threaten to kill her after she wedded another lady,” Kamini told news organization ANI.

After two years, Sen tricked another lady from Uttarakhand’s Kaladhungi town and wedded her in April 2016, police said. The “second spouse”, recognized as Nisha, was available during Sen’s first wedding as a visitor. Sen leased a room in Tikoniya region of Haldwani and kept both of his “spouses” there, police said.

“The young lady from Kaladhungi came to realize that Krishna was not a man. However, she tricked to keep her quiet for some time by promising her cash. The girl from Kathgodam territory logged a report with the Haldwani Police alleging of dowry demand dangers to her life after which the police made the arrest,” Khanduri said.

A police official cited Sen as having said that she dressed up as a buy since her adolescence, and had trimmed her hair to look like it.

After her “relationships”, Sen supposedly didn’t let the ladies see her body or contact her and utilized sex toys to perfect the relationship, police said. A medical assessment confirmed that Sen was naturally a lady, Khanduri included.

“We were hitched for a long time, and I found her reality later. I didn’t register a complaint. I would prefer not to live with her now,” Nisha told ANI.

Sen was initially accused of dowry charges, but police said they altered the report as none of the two relationships qualified as marriage.

“Krishna has been booked for impersonation and not for dowry. In fact, she was not a spouse; hence it can’t be treated as marriage,” said Sanjay Joshi, sub-inspector, Kathgodam who is exploring the case.

Police said they are looking for Sen’s family, who were available during both the weddings and supposedly visited the homes of the two ladies.
