The blade material is made just around 0.2mm thick made up of chrome steel. To maintain sharp edges for a long time, it is heat treated by quenching or tempering and this heat treatment makes material hard and brittle. Hence, such material tends to break when deformed even slightly. So the peculiar design is provided at centre and edges to accommodate flexibility without breaking. It gives stability with flexibility, and certain shapes may be used as locators for placing blades.
