Brown Bear Spotted Roaming In Spanish National Park For The First Time In 150 Years

A brown bear has been spotted at a national park in Spain for the first time in 150 years.

Yes, 150 years!

Adorable images and footage of the animal were captured on cameras that were set up by a crew that was shooting the movie Montaña ou Morte (Mountain or Death) in the Invernadeiro national park in Galicia’s Ourense province.

The national park is home to deer, wild boars, and wolves.

This is the first time a brown bear has been seen in over a century, said officials.

Zeitun Films, the production company, released a statement about their catch and said:

The bear, a male aged between three and five, is the first to be filmed in the area and probably the first to have crossed through the region in the past 150 years.

According to 2 local wildlife rangers, the bear spent the entire winter in the park.

It is believed that the bear made its way south from the Sierra del Caurel Mountains.

Ricardo Prieto Rochas and Tomás Pérez Hernández, the 2 wildlife rangers, said that the animal living at the national park means other species can too.

The statement added:

Years of conservation work in the Invernadeiro national park have allowed it to become a suitable habitat for the brown bear.

Brown bears are protected in Spain since the year 1973.
