California Woman Punches Mountain Lion And Pried Open Its Mouth In Effort To Save Pet Pooch

A woman from Southern California punched a mountain lion and tried to pry its jaws open to save her pet pooch from its deadly attack that was happening in her backyard.

Unfortunately, the efforts of the woman failed as the pet was killed.

The woman also sustained minor cut injuries after she was attacked by the mountain lion.

The miniature schnauzer pet pooch of the woman died in the incident.

The pet owner’s brother, Brian, explained how his sister woken up by Pumbaa, the pet dog, at 2 am, believing that it needed to go to the toilet.

The owner opened the door to let the dog out but saw a mountain lion.

Brian said, “She jumped on the mountain lion and tried to pry its jaws open to save her dog because she loves her dog so much.”

According to Sgt. Keith Eisenhour, the incident happened in Simi Valley.

Sgt. Eisenhour said, “She obviously cared about her dog very much, as all dog owners do.”

He added, “She tried to fend the animal off by punching it, elbowing it and tried to pry its jaws open.”

Adam Darough, the Police Commander, said officers responding to a call saw the mountain lion eating the dog in the backyard.

After being spotted, the mountain lion took off into the hills.

The attack happened about 35 miles north-west of downtown Los Angeles in a neighborhood adjacent to wildlands.

On Wednesday, a day before the incident, another dog was injured by a mountain lion in the same area.

Luckily that dog survived with only sustaining minor injuries, which were later treated at a vet hospital in the area.

On that same day, reports suggest that mountain lions were seen in the area.

A Ventura County sheriff’s helicopter and animal control officers searched the area.

During the searching of the area, authorities found nothing, which led them to believe that the animal went back into the hills.
