Elephants In Nepal Beaten With Bullhooks And Sticks For Games In Chitwan Elephant Festival

A disturbing video surfed the internet that showed a number of elephants being hit and gouged with sharp sticks, bullhooks, and other weapons.

The disturbing video was shot in Nepal, and the elephants in the video were forced to take part in the Chitwan Elephant Festival in Nepal.

Elephant handlers, often called as mahouts, were seen in the video beating elephants with hooks and jabbing them into their skin during a football match, where the elephants were forced to take part in.

Close-up shots show the markings and the bloody wounds of the elephants with chunks of their skin missing.

The video was shared by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an animal rights group.

Renault and Carlsberg Group, which were sponsors of the festival, decided to cut ties with the even after the video went viral.

Elephants in the video were brutally beaten and were too young to perform in the festival.
