Extremely Rare Snow Leopard Caught On Cam In India’s Snowy Mountains

Snow Leopards are famously known for their fluffy fur and amazing looks. They are rarely spotted and photographed by people, but recently, a snow leopard was caught on cam on the snowy mountains of India.

The video that we are talking about was taken in Himachal Pradesh, a northern state in India.

Susanta Nanda, an Indian Forest Officer, shared the video on Twitter on Monday.

Officer Nanda said the video was filmed at the Hikkim Village in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti district.

In the video, the leopard can be seen walking down on a snow-covered road, which was extremely close to a tourist vehicle.

While sharing the video, Nanda said, “Snow leopard is the most beautiful and mystical big cats with grey/green eyes, unlike the yellow eyes of other big cats.”

He added, “Rare to see these ghost of the mountains.”

The big cats have tails that are as long as their bodies and have 5 inches of fur, which protects them from the extreme temperatures of the mountain.

The video that he shared has over 17,000 views, 489 retweets, and over 2000 likes.

Here are some of the comments that people left after watching the video:

According to the SLCIT (Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust) snow leopards are endangered in India, and they are mostly found in the high mountains of the Himalayas.

They are only found in 12 countries around the world and because they are very hard to reach, the snow leopards are the least studied large cats in the world.

It is believed that there are around 200 to 600 snow leopards across the western Himalayas.
