Graphic: Couple Share Horrific Images Of Dog’s Tongue Nearly Cut In Half After It Got Stuck In Rubber Ball Toy
Traumatized couple shares horrific warning to dog-owners after pet pooch share images of pet dog’s tongue nearly cut in half after rubber ball toy got stuck in it.
James and Helen Hartley had to wrestle with their pet dog after they found out that a rubber ball was in the mouth of Poppy, their pet pooch.
After removing the ball from the mouth of the pet dog, the couple found out that there was something strange with Poppy’s tongue.
It turned out that the ruby ball stopped the blood flow to the tongue of the dog, which lead the dog to miss out huge parts of the tongue.
The tissue turned necrotic, and the chunks fell off.
After finding out that the dog’s tongue was different, they rushed Poppy to the Foxhall Veterinary Clinic in Ruskington, Lincolnshire.
Although the marking looked sore, Poppy was still quite happy to eat the treats the staff of the Veterinary offered.
Doctors and staff gave her medication to minimize the swelling of the tongue, they also asked the couple to bring the dog for daily check-ups.
But a week after the incident, the condition of Poppy’s tongue became much worse and foul smell and white plaque started to form around the areas.
Eventually, the areas that showed problems became necrotic, which means the tissues in those areas were dying slowly.
This problem left Poppy with 2 giant slits on both sides of her tongue.
The couple rushed the dog to the vet and emergency surgery was done to remove the dead tissue.
The doctor at the vet clinic stitched the remaining tongue.
The spokesperson of the Foxhall Veterinary Clinic released a statement about the incident.
The spokesperson of the clinic said, “The surgery was successful and our nurses couldn’t believe it when Poppy ate and drank as soon as she woke up. We’re happy to report that Poppy’s tongue has pretty much healed now, she is using her tongue normally to drink and can still give plenty of kisses. The stitches are in place but will eventually dissolve. We’ve all grown very attached to Poppy here at Foxhall and we will miss her daily visits. Poppy’s owners wanted us to share her story to highlight the dangers of leaving your dog unattended with toys, no matter how innocent they seem.”
Poppy is now recovering from the surgery.
Helen, the owner of Poppy, talked about the traumatic experience of Poppy playing with the rubber ball.
She said, “[It was] really traumatic for us all. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for looking after Poppy. She’s been so well-loved by everybody at the surgery and we couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated team. Well done to you all, Poppy sends sloppy kisses.”
Luckily, Poppy is completely fine and is now recovering.
We hope you a fast recovery Poppy, stay safe!
