Rare White Rhino Calf Is Born At Disney’s Animal Kingdom In Florida

An extremely rare white rhinoceros has been born at the Animal Kingdom of Disney in Florida, United States of America.

Kendi, the mother, was born at the park in 1999 and she gave birth to a male calf on October 25, 2020.

Both mother and the baby calf are currently doing well, said a statement that was released by the Walt Disney World Resort.

The statement added:

Calf and mother are doing well under the keepers’ watchful eyes. While rhinos are gregarious by nature, for now the calf is resting, nursing and bonding with his mom.

The calf, who is still nameless, will be joining the crash of rhinos in the upcoming weeks.

Visitors that visit the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction of the park will get a chance to see the little one in the upcoming weeks.

According to reports, Kendi was paired with Dugan, a male rhino.

The plan was made through the Species Survivals Plans, which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

This plan is made to make sure that the endangered species numbers grow despite being in captivity.

With the new calf, there is now 11 white rhino calf at the Walt Disney World Resort.

2 other females are expected to give birth next year, said officials at Walt Disney.

The statement about the birth next year added:

This is especially significant, as white rhinos – the world’s second-largest land animal – are an endangered species with a near-threatened status.

Such good news to hear during rough times like these!
