After it went viral on social media that the Chester Zoo is having a hard time taking care of their animals at the zoo, Iceland, the supermarket, has announced that they will be adopting all of the Humboldt Penguins at the zoo.

This is part of the #SaveOurZoo campaign that got started after the largest charity zoo in the United Kingdom revealed that they will have to stay closed as the country is still recovering the coronavirus cases.

Chester Zoo staff said that they have tried to stay positive during this coronavirus pandemic.

However, in order to get by this tough time, they need to raise £1.6m per month.

In just a couple of days, they have raised over £2.3 million.

That’s not enough, frozen food specialists, the Iceland Supermarket, have come over to help.

The good news was announced on Twitter, where they said:

We’ve joined the fight to save @chesterzoo and have adopted the penguins. The zoo has over 35,000 threatened and critically endangered animals but may have to close its doors for good due to Covid-19 law.

The Humboldt penguin is one of the 500 or many species at the zoo that is considered endangered, so getting things working at the Chester Zoo is really important.

During this coronavirus pandemic, penguins that are living at the Chester Zoo reportedly gave birth.

The staff at the zoo named all of the chicks after NHS hospitals in order to honor workers that are fighting this pandemic.

Richard Walker, the managing director of Iceland Supermarket, said:

We were all saddened to hear of Chester Zoo’s recent struggles – it’s the heart of the local community in Chester and a much loved family favourite. I remember visiting the zoo as a child and my own kids love going there. We’re proud to be able to lend them our support both through the adoption of the Humboldt penguins on behalf of our colleagues, and by lobbying in support of zoos being allowed to reopen soon. The conservation work undertaken by the Zoo is vital and along with the park itself reopening it is incredibly important that this amazing work is able to continue.
