Weird Looking 12-Inch Hammerhead Snake Is Found In The US

An extremely rare 12-inch hammerhead snake was found in the United States of America and social media users are just amazed.

The Virginia Wildlife Management and Control’s Snake Identification Hotline was recently contacted about a strange-looking snake, said official reports.

The snake that was reported had a half-moon shaped head, which stumped experts.

The experts later admitted that they had never seen anything like it before.

According to a statement that was released by the Virginia Wildlife Management and Control, the weird-looking snake was found in Midlothian.

The snake is around 10 to 12 inches long.

The Virginia Wildlife Management and Control released a statement about the incident and asked social media users to talk about the animal and try to identify it.

They wrote: “The problem is, we’ve never seen anything like it before and we’re not sure if it’s a freak of nature, like the 2 headed copperheads, that we were involved with, a few years ago. So if anyone has any idea what it is, please feel free to comment.”

It was later revealed that the animal that was found was not a snake.

Instead, the Virginia Wildlife Management and Control said that the snake turned out to be a hammerhead worm.

They are invasive species that are native to Southeast Asia, said authorities.

Also, the Virginia Wildlife Management and Control said that these worms are really tough to kill and are capable of doing a lot of things.

Experts said that Hammerhead Worms are notoriously difficult to kill and they are capable of regenerating from small amputated bits of their bodies.

Well, imagine chipping off their body and they come back to haunt you. Yikes!

Jokes aside, let’s go back to the topic.

A user said that these worms are also known as Shovelhead worms, which can also be identified as hammerhead worms.

They are invasive and are known to kill earthworms.

Some users also said that these worms could be killed if you place them in salt and vinegar.

According to the Texas Invasive Species Institute, the hammerhead worms managed to enter the United States of America a couple of decades ago.

They were brought into the country with horticultural plants and have been regularly found in greenhouses since 1901.
