Woman From Utah Said Vet Mistakenly Euthanized Her Pet Dog After Calling The Wrong Family

A family from Utah is trying to cope up with the horrible death of her dog after a vet reportedly euthanized him by mistake.

Andrea Martinez, the owner of the pooch, took it to Facebook to share the devastating news.

Martinez shared the incident on Facebook, writing that the family took their pet Ziggy, a dachshund, to the emergency room after his breathing got weird.

The emergency vet recommended surgery for Ziggy, which she agreed to.

The puppy was undergoing an invasive procedure, the vet realized it was going to be a lot more work and the money than they expected.

The vet claims they called the family to get permission to continue with the surgery or to euthanize him.

Martinez claims she never received that call.

Martinez said, “But they didn’t call me.”

She added, “[T]hey called another [dog’s] mom thinking it was me, and she said no to go ahead and lay him down.”

Martinez said she didn’t receive any call from the doctors.

She did not find out her dog had been euthanized until someone from the vet’s office called later to tell her Ziggy had been put down.

She said that when she freaked out, the vets realized they called the wrong person.

During an interview with the local press, Martinez said, “Then he got back on [the phone] and he apologized and said, ‘I’m so sorry that this happened, we got confused and ended up calling another dog’s mom.’”

Martinez said the vet told her there was another dog named Ziggy at that time, and they called them instead of calling her.

Martinez said she would have never agreed to let her dog go without trying more.

Since finding out the heartbreaking news, Martinez had been crying.

Martinez doesn’t understand how to break it to her 6-year-old daughter that her best friend had died.

She also talked about her love with Ziggy.

On her Facebook post, she said, “Ziggy followed me EVERYWHERE and cuddled me every single night. He made my anxiety bearable. I feel so sick that this happened.”

The name of the vet was not shared with the public.

The vet reportedly apologized for the unfortunate incident and waved the bill.

The vet gifted the family an urn, plaque, and Christmas ornament with Ziggy’s paw print.
