Assam Flash-Flood 2019: 6 Confirmed Dead And Over 800,000 People Affected

Heavy rain that has been falling continuously in Assam for one week has affected over 800,000 residents in at least 21 districts of the state.

The government also confirmed that the Brahmaputra River in Assam, which is one of the world’s largest river, and 5 other rivers in the state are currently flowing above the safe mark.

Authorities have confirmed that 6 people have died in the flash floods.

The authorities also stopped the ferry services in the state on July 12, 2019, after the meteorological department said that the state will be facing more rain on the weekend.

The state government announced that 27,000 hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed so far.

More than seven thousand people have been evacuated from the state and are currently living in relief camps that have been set in various parts of Assam.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, more than 85,000 people have been affected in Barpeta, a district in Assam.

Barpeta is currently the most affected district in the state.

Officials from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority also confirmed that the Kaziranga National Park in Assam has also been affected.

The national park is currently the home of the one-horned rhinoceros, they are currently considered as endangered.

The state government has also imposed restrictions on the speeds of vehicles that are passing by the National Highway near the Kaziranga National Park.
