A dog was shot in its face by a gang while the superhero animal was trying to protect his family from carjackers.

Guluva, the superhero dog, protected his owner’s boyfriend after carjackers pulled a gun on him at their house in Cape Town.

During an interview with News 24, Derrick Mfengwana, the owner of Guluva, said that he witnessed the dog attack a carjacker who pulled a gun on the boyfriend of his sister.

He said that the carjackers came to them and said: “give us the car keys”.

He added, “The dog was inside the yard and went for one of the men.”

Derrick said that he was watching a movie inside their home when he heard a gunshot.

He explained, “I heard my girlfriend and sister screaming and thought they had shot her boyfriend because I saw blood around the house.”

Derrick said that Guluva jumped and attacked one of the armed carjackers.

Guluva was then shot in the nose by the armed men.

When Guluva attacked the attacker, the boyfriend of Derrick’s sister managed to run away and get to safety.

Derrick said when he went out, he saw Guluva bleeding.

Derrick added, “He was still standing and running around.”

The carjackers managed to flee from the house after the incident.

Guluva was brought by Derrick to the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa.

Veterinarians at the AWS South Africa said that the jaw and tongue of Guluva were damaged in the attack.
